Cotton After Rain: Comme des Garçons and Denim Tears Release Tears
For Denim Tears, cotton has long been more than a clothing texture—it carries memory. Now, with Comme des Garçons Parfums, the brand translates that image into fragrance.

When a fashion collaboration moves beyond a T-shirt or a sneaker, it can easily remain a souvenir. Tears takes a more ambitious route: the new unisex fragrance from Comme des Garçons Parfums and Denim Tears seeks to convey not an object, but a place and the memory tied to it.
The composition was created by perfumer Paul Guerlain. Its starting point is rural Georgia after rain: damp cotton fields, red clay, morning moisture, and warmth slowly rising from the ground. For Denim Tears founder Tremaine Emory, it is a personal landscape connected with summer trips to Harlem, Georgia.
The fragrance structure supports this scene without a literal “cotton” note. The opening lists galbanum, ambrettolide, and sage; narcissus, jasmine, fluve, and iris follow. The base combines vetiver, hay, cypriol, and musk. It is a floral-musky fragrance in which green dampness is meant to yield to dry, hay-like warmth.
For Denim Tears, cotton is a material with historical and cultural weight, not a neutral symbol of comfort. That makes Tears more than another fashion-and-fragrance licence: it moves the brand’s language into a different sense. Clothing makes the subject visible; fragrance invites it to be experienced through air, earth, and temperature.
Comme des Garçons Parfums is a fitting partner here. The house has long worked with unexpected images and materials without reducing perfumery to familiar codes of luxury. In Tears, that conceptual instinct gains a specific story while retaining its connection to a wearable fragrance.
Tears will launch on 18 September 2026 at Comme des Garçons stores, selected Dover Street Market locations, Africa Diaspora Goods, and online through Denim Tears. The project’s success will depend not on the volume of the names involved, but on whether fragrance lovers find an independent composition behind its compelling concept.
