Tauer Brings Geranium to the Fore in Geranium Absolue

Andy Tauer has introduced Geranium Absolue, a green floral fragrance in which geranium is not the customary rosy accent but carries the entire composition. The release extends the Absolue line and invites the wearer to follow the material from leaf to a warm trail.

У Tauer герань выходит на первый план — в Geranium Absolue

When geranium appears in a fragrance description, it is easy to take it for familiar background: a touch of greenery, a rosy nuance, a fresh bitterness. With Geranium Absolue, Tauer Perfumes changes that usual role: geranium is not an accent here, but the subject of close attention.

From Leaf to Flower

Andy Tauer himself describes the idea as a movement between leaf and flower. He wanted to show geranium whole—herbal, leafy, floral and faintly powdery at once. The name therefore does not promise an abstract floral fragrance: its idea is more precise, giving one material room to speak rather than concealing it beneath a lavish bouquet.

The opening lists bergamot, lemon and aromatic herbs. Bourbon geranium remains at the centre: green and floral, with rosy and powdery facets. A base of tonka, labdanum, oakmoss, woody notes and vanilla adds warmth without undoing the character of the central theme.

A Lighter Tauer, Without Losing His Signature

In a presentation note from Pitti Fragranze, the perfumer connects Geranium Absolue with the recent L’Air du Jardin Caché. He is interested in freshness and greenery, and in allowing materials to remain freer: depth matters, but the base need not always have the final word.

That shift makes the release especially interesting for those familiar with Tauer’s dense amber-woody compositions. His recognizable attraction to texture remains, yet the journey begins not in a rich base but in a bright green heart.

What to Know Before Trying It

Geranium Absolue is a unisex eau de parfum in a 50 ml bottle and is already available from the house; it can also be included in the brand’s set of five samples. With a composition like this, it makes sense not to stop at the citrus opening: the real intrigue lies in the passage from herbal freshness to a softer, warmer foundation.

This is not an attempt to make geranium safer or sweeter. Rather, Tauer Perfumes asks us to consider a familiar perfumery material without a merely decorative role—and to see how convincingly it performs when it is truly given centre stage.
