Velvet’s New Amber-and-Sage Scent Isn’t Just About Freshness

When amber and sage appear together in a name, it is easy to picture a transparent herbal scent on a warm base. Dolce & Gabbana’s new Velvet Amber Sage follows a different path: the green aromatic note is intended not to lighten the amber, but to give it volume and definition.

The brand is expanding the Velvet Collection, its luxury fragrance line in bottles finished with velvet. The composition was created by perfumer Jordi Fernández. At its centre are clary sage absolute and amber, joined by praline, cinnamon bark essence, roasted tonka bean absolute and cedarwood.

That combination shifts expectations of the name. Sage usually brings a dry, camphoraceous and faintly bitter facet, while praline and tonka suggest sweetness, and cinnamon adds warmth and spice. Amber and creamy cedar are meant to draw the composition into a rich woody-amber trail. This is not an attempt to make amber lighter, but a play on its contrast with a green herbal note.

Velvet Amber Sage will launch in October 2026 online and in Dolce & Gabbana boutiques; a 100 ml Eau de Parfum has been announced for the US. Russian launch timing and pricing have not yet been disclosed.

For collectors, the release is interesting not simply as another Velvet bottle, but for the direction it takes: rather than setting “fresh” against “warm,” it brings both registers together in one full-bodied formula. The final impression will, of course, come only from wearing the fragrance on skin; for now, the information is limited to the announced note structure and launch.
