Capsum moves to Motion Equity Partners while Chanel retains a stake
Behind a familiar bottle there is often an unseen technology company. That is the kind of change in control now taking place at Capsum, a developer of formulas for premium fragrance, makeup and skincare.

When a fragrance promises an unusual texture, capsules or a gradual-release effect, it is often supported by solutions the customer never sees. Capsum works in this part of the industry, specialising in microfluidics and formula development for premium products, including fragrance.
On 20 October, investment fund Motion Equity Partners announced its acquisition of a controlling stake in Capsum. The company’s founder and CEO, Sébastien Bardon, together with the management team, is also reinvesting in the business. Chanel, which had held a controlling stake since the 2010s, will remain a minority shareholder.
For Capsum, this means a change of majority owner while its founder, management and Chanel all retain an interest. This structure usually gives the new investor control over the company’s development, without automatically changing its operating team or technological direction.
For fragrance buyers, the news does not yet signal a particular new scent or a change to existing formulas. The announcement does not identify future launches, partner brands or consumer products that the transaction will affect.
For the industry, however, the transaction matters: the investor takes control of a company operating at the intersection of formula development and microfluidics, a field that shapes delivery systems and product textures. What this change will mean for fragrance brands and their future releases will become clear only through Capsum’s next projects.
