Grasse Opens a Six-Month Window onto Asian Perfumery

In a city accustomed to telling the story of European fragrance, a temporary gallery of contemporary Asian brands will appear. It opens at the International Perfume Museum on 26 September.

Грасс на шесть месяцев откроет витрину для азиатской парфюмерии

When a perfume itinerary leads to Grasse, one usually expects a conversation about raw materials, old factories and the French school. A new gallery at the International Perfume Museum offers a different focus: contemporary Asian perfumery—not as a distant trend, but as part of today’s international scene.

The project will run for six months and marks the museum’s first joint initiative with the Cosmoprof and Esxence trade shows. For Grasse, it is a notable gesture: an institution associated with the history of European perfume-making is making dedicated space for brands whose languages, markets and cultural codes have long remained at the edge of the Western professional view.

The gallery does not promise to reduce Asian perfumery to a single style—and that is precisely its value. The term encompasses different local traditions, design approaches and ways of speaking about fragrance: through familiar materials, atmosphere, ritual or the form of a bottle. In a museum setting, these perspectives can be seen side by side not for the sake of exoticism, but to compare approaches to contemporary perfumery.

Cosmoprof and Esxence bring a link between a cultural venue and the professional industry to the project. One fair works across the broader world of beauty, the other with independent and artistic perfumery; the museum, in turn, shifts the conversation from a new-product format to one of observation. For brands, it is a chance to be noticed in Grasse; for visitors, a reason to broaden their familiar map of scent.

For now, the organisers have announced the dates and overall theme, but have not revealed a full list of brands or exhibits. The gallery’s main point of anticipation, then, is not an attempt to name the “next big market,” but to see which voices it brings together and how they will sound in France’s perfume capital.
