ININUM blends fragrances in an app and wins a design award

In Monaco, ININUM’s device—where a fragrance is assembled from replaceable capsules and adjusted through an app—was recognised. ININUM and Berlin Packaging received the 2026 Formes de Luxe Award in the Beauty Tech category.

A conventional bottle has one clear virtue: it needs no explanation. You choose a fragrance, press the sprayer, and the formula remains as the perfumer intended it. ININUM proposes a different scenario: carrying several compatible fragrance directions and changing their proportions.

The project received the 2026 Formes de Luxe Award in the Beauty Tech category. The ceremony took place on 28 September during Luxe Pack Monaco; Berlin Packaging and its Studio One Eleven team developed the physical solution with ININUM. In this category, the award assesses innovation, technical execution, the quality and aesthetics of the finished object, and the sustainability of the solution.

On the outside, ININUM looks like a compact fragrance device, but it holds three replaceable POD fragrance capsules. Through the app, its owner sets the proportions, and the device blends the components at the moment of spraying. A favourite combination can be saved and reproduced later, without having to guess again at the order and number of sprays involved in conventional fragrance layering.

The maker describes the system as AI-powered: algorithms help suggest combinations, while the app controls the profile and proportions. Yet the basis of the experience is entirely tangible—three finished Eau de Parfums designed to work together. According to ININUM, one set can create more than a hundred combinations; these are not a hundred separate formulas in a bottle, but different ratios of the same capsules.

This is where the role of packaging becomes apparent. It has to accommodate cartridges, a dosing mechanism, electronics and an interface, while remaining an object one wants to take from a bag or leave on a table. Berlin Packaging describes the device as a combination of industrial design, Bluetooth connectivity, NFC capsule recognition and app-controlled blending.

For a collector, this is more likely to be a new format for a fragrance wardrobe than a replacement for a beloved bottle. The same set can be shifted towards a fresher or warmer effect, a successful ratio can be saved for a particular occasion, and a capsule can be replaced without buying a new device. On its product page, ININUM states that the device is already available with delivery in the EU and the US.

The award cannot answer whether a particular blend will appeal on the skin. It does, however, mark an important shift: in perfumery, the entire ritual is becoming a design object—from the replaceable capsule and the mechanics of spraying to a digital memory of one’s own combinations. For the packaging industry, this is a reason to consider the bottle part of a service; for fragrance lovers, an opportunity to decide whether this degree of freedom is useful in daily wear.
