Montblanc’s Paper Musc turns the idea of paper into musk

Paper has no scent of its own, yet it carries a tactile memory: the dry whiteness of a sheet, its cool smoothness, the promise of a first line. Montblanc translates that feeling into white musk, flowers and soft woods.

Montblanc has added Paper Musc to the Montblanc Collection. Its starting point is not the literal scent of printer’s ink or an old library, but the image of a blank page—an idea closely tied to the house’s writing instruments.

The composition centres on white musk. Orange blossom and cashmeran are listed alongside it: the former brings a bright floral clarity, while the latter lends a gently dry, woody softness. Musk also appears among the top notes, so the paper concept will likely read as a clean, airy texture rather than a recognisable paper accord.

Paper Musc was created by Nathalie Lorson and Ilias Ermenidis. For Montblanc, it is a natural continuation of the house’s visual and object-led history: the white lacquer inside the bottle evokes a blank page, while the cap retains a shape inspired by the brand’s signature ink bottle.

Buyers should approach the new release chiefly as a musky woody-floral fragrance with a literary image, rather than expect a realistic scent of paper. Those looking for a transparent musk with a soft floral glow may find Paper Musc worth trying on a blotter and on skin. Availability and pricing will vary by market; the fragrance is currently offered in a 125 ml bottle by European retailers.
