Replica’s First City Exclusive Looks Back to Tokyo in 1995
For the first time, Maison Margiela has tied a Replica fragrance to one city. Letter Never Sent evokes Tokyo in 1995 through the image of a letter left unfinished in a desk drawer.

City fragrances often promise a postcard from a journey. With Letter Never Sent, Maison Margiela chooses a quieter scene: ink on paper, an unfinished or unsent letter, and Tokyo in the mid-1990s.
The release joins the Replica line under the label Tokyo, 1995 and is the series’ first fragrance created specifically for a single city. It shifts the collection’s familiar geography: its “memories” have previously been tied to places and moments, but not limited to one city in terms of availability.
The composition is described as woody-musky. At its centre are a sumi ink accord, Virginia red cedar and white musk. The dry, mineral facet of ink is intended to shape the opening; cedar brings warmth and texture, while white musk leaves a soft, skin-close trail.
For Replica, it is also the first eau de parfum release within the Memory Collection. Visually, the bottle retains the line’s familiar apothecary-like restraint, while its label fixes a precise point in place and time: Tokyo, 1995.
The fragrance went on sale on 1 October 2026 in a 100 ml format and is available only in Tokyo. At the same time, a temporary Letter Never Sent space opened at GINZA SIX, built around the image of a post office, with a letter-writing area and a photo spot.
Here, the local focus matters more than the polished backstory. Letter Never Sent will not be an incidental new addition to Replica shelves outside Japan: for collectors and anyone visiting Tokyo, it offers a distinct route into the series.
