Purple Trouble: Juliette Has a Gun gives blackberry a sharp chili accent

In the brand’s new fragrance, juicy fruit avoids dessert-like sweetness: red chili deliberately jolts the blackberry into focus.

Fruit fragrances are often built around a sense of carefree pleasure—familiar, smooth, almost candy-like. Purple Trouble by Juliette Has a Gun takes a different route: wild blackberry sits at the centre of the composition, its juiciness sharpened by red chili.

The brand presents Purple Trouble as a fruity-musky fragrance for 2026. Wild blackberry appears in the top note, red chili in the heart, with ambroxan and musk forming the base. The contrast is not merely decorative: the chili is intended to lend the fruit a dry heat and make it less predictable.

The fragrance is credited to Romano Ricci, founder and creative director of Juliette Has a Gun. In his concept, blackberry is meant to feel textured rather than polished—fresh, generous and a little wild. The chili acts as a small but noticeable shift: it does not overwhelm the fruit, but brings out its darker side.

Musk and ambroxan in the base continue the brand’s familiar approach to a modern, skin-close trail. Purple Trouble is therefore interesting not simply for pairing fruit with spice, but for moving the fruity theme away from sweet indulgence and into a more composed, spicy register.

For anyone drawn to berry fragrances but wanting more character from them, this is a launch worth watching. Only skin will reveal the balance between blackberry’s juiciness, chili’s warmth and the musky base—and whether Purple Trouble remains a playful fruity scent or becomes a sharper, more grown-up reading of the berry.
