Danner & Flemming Iris Tannat — new for October 2026

Iris is rarely associated with a wine cellar, yet Danner & Flemming built their fourth fragrance around precisely that connection. Iris Tannat brings together two varieties grown in Bavaria with wine lees and an extract of oak barrel.

Iris is easy to picture as powdery and transparent. With Iris Tannat, Danner & Flemming propose another perspective: the material’s rooty, mineral side, linked to wine and wood.

The house announced the new release on 21 October 2026; pre-orders opened the same day, with sales scheduled to begin on 23 October. It is Danner & Flemming’s fourth fragrance and the start of a darker, more tannic line for the house.

At the heart of the composition are two Bavarian irises: Iris pallida oil and Iris germanica extract. According to the brand, the perfume oil contains 3.5% iris material. The fragrance was composed by perfumer Antoine Lie.

The name refers to Tannat, a French grape variety associated with the Irouléguy region of the Basque Country. Around the iris are wine-lees extract, a CO₂ extract of old oak barrels, rum, patchouli, rose absolute, ylang-ylang, nutmeg and vetiver. Together, these materials suggest not a literal wine scent but a dry setting of wood, earth, spice and grape-like astringency.

Danner & Flemming grows irises in Bavaria and releases limited editions under the Millésime designation, echoing wine vintages. The first run of Iris Tannat is limited to 893 numbered 50 ml bottles.

For collectors, the interest lies in more than its limited nature. Iris Tannat continues a relatively rare thread in contemporary niche perfumery, where the origin of botanical materials becomes part of the concept, and the wine metaphor explains the composition’s character rather than simply decorating its name.
