Tate McRae’s Tate 01 promises a ‘second skin’ — not a custom-made perfume
The singer’s debut fragrance, created with Scent Beauty and Givaudan perfumers, is built not on a bespoke formula but on a familiar yet precise promise: to sit close to the skin.

The phrase ‘a fragrance that adapts to you’ can easily suggest a perfume composed to a personal brief. Tate 01 is something else: one finished composition, designed to register differently on different people.
Tate McRae has introduced her first fragrance, Tate 01, in partnership with Scent Beauty. Givaudan master perfumers Adriana Medina and Antoine Maisondieu took part in its development; the launch is accompanied by the eponymous TATE brand, rather than being a one-off licensing exercise with her name on the bottle.
The brand classifies Tate 01 as a fresh aromatic woody scent. Bergamot and clary sage are listed in the opening; orange blossom, Hedione and Iso E Super in the heart; and moss and creamy tonka in the base. The composition moves from transparent freshness to soft woody warmth, rather than towards a dense gourmand character.
Iso E Super helps explain the ‘second-skin’ image. This synthetic material has a soft, velvety-woody profile, and it can reveal itself differently on skin and to the people around the wearer. Yet the Tate 01 formula remains the same for every customer: the personal element here is the artistic effect of a fragrance interacting with its wearer, not individually blended ingredients.
That is the intriguing shift in celebrity perfumery. Scent Beauty is known for working with cultural and media names through e-commerce, while Tate 01 combines that model with the visible involvement of the perfume house Givaudan and a commitment to a dedicated namesake brand. For a fan, this is not ‘a Tate fragrance made especially for me’, but an attempt to offer a recognisable signature scent that stays close to the skin.
Tate 01 is already on sale through the brand’s website in the United States and Canada; pre-orders are open for the UK and EU. A US launch at Ulta Beauty is planned. Whether the composition fulfils its ‘second-skin’ promise can only be judged after independent wear reports emerge; for now, the available information consists of the launch claims and scent profile.
