Symrise opens a Singapore hub for shaping fragrances for Asia

Customers, perfumers and specialist experts are meant to meet at the same table here. Symrise expects the format to make development for Asian markets faster and more focused.

A new fragrance often begins not with a formula but with a long exchange between a brand, a perfumer, researchers and teams familiar with the local market. In Singapore, Symrise has opened its Scent Creative Center to bring those conversations into one space.

The company describes the centre as a consumer-centric hub where customers can work with Symrise perfumers and experts on fragrance creation. Its stated purpose is to speed up co-creation for Asia, where expectations of fragranced products depend particularly strongly on the category, everyday habits and local context.

The centre will also house the Global Skin Cleansing Center of Excellence. This unit focuses on skin-cleansing products and is intended to combine specialist expertise with the sharing of practices across the company. The connection matters for fragrance: a scent in a shower gel, liquid soap or another cleansing product has different demands from a composition for an alcohol-based perfume.

The opening does not mean that one particular new product will soon appear on shelves. Its practical significance lies in shortening the distance between a brand’s brief, the perfumer’s work and knowledge of the regional consumer. If the model works as Symrise expects, future fragrances and fragranced products for Asian markets will be developed in closer dialogue with the people they are made for.

For Symrise, the opening forms part of its ONE Symrise strategy and is another sign of its long-term presence in Singapore and Asia. For the reader, it is a useful reminder to look more closely at the product category: behind the familiar smell of a shampoo, face wash or new perfume, there is increasingly not only the author of the composition but the shared work of several specialists around a specific use scenario.
