About the brand
Houbigant
Houbigant has operated since 1775, but the differences between its compositions matter most when choosing. Paul Parquet created Fougère Royale in 1882; the house connects it with the emergence of the fougère family and notes its use of coumarin from tonka beans. Quelques Fleurs appeared in 1912 through Robert Bienaimé and entered Houbigant history as the first multi-floral bouquet.
This contrast provides a useful introduction. Fougère Royale represents the fougère tradition, while Quelques Fleurs centres on a complex floral image. Apply them separately, observe their development after an hour, and return to them near the end of the day. This makes their direction, density, longevity, and comfortable projection easier to understand.
Chantilly, created by Marcel Billot and released in 1941, adds another historical reference point. Its original release date does not mean that a contemporary edition literally repeats the early formula. Choose by its current character on skin rather than expecting museum-like immutability from the name.
Houbigant compositions are created in Grasse, and the house remains family-managed. This context explains the brand's continuity, but a personal choice is best made by comparing fragrances under the same conditions and without haste.
