Hubert de Givenchy founded the Paris house in 1952. Its early style brought clean lines and precise proportions together with a freer form of elegance, making personality more important than heavy formality.
Fragrance became part of Givenchy during the 1950s. L'Interdit, created for Audrey Hepburn, was released publicly in 1957, and the first men's scents followed two years later. Perfume quickly became an independent part of the house while retaining its couture source.
