Bohoboco
Bohoboco is a Polish fragrance project led by founder and creative director Michał Gilbert Lach. Its first composition, No. 1, appeared in 2012, and the BOHOBOCO • PERFUME collection was presented in 2016. Its language is built on personal memory, emotional contrasts, and paired material names, from eucalyptus and patchouli to sandalwood and neroli.
Brand story and character
Michał Gilbert Lach's path began in the image-making industry. According to an interview with a retail partner, he worked in hair and makeup, owned a salon, then became a clothing designer and created the BOHOBOCO fashion label in Warsaw. The fragrance direction brought him back to a childhood dream of making his own scent and translated his visual experience into work with smell.
Composition No. 1 was first presented in 2012. Its success encouraged Lach to continue developing fragrances. The BOHOBOCO • PERFUME collection premiered in 2016, with No. 1 joining it under the new name Vanilla • Black Pepper. These dates describe the path from one composition to a collection but do not establish a legal founding date for the company.
Lach is responsible for founding the house and setting its creative direction. In the brand's publications, the point of departure is not a list of ingredients but a memory, mood, or place. Materials are selected later and connected through tensions between opposites: sweetness against sharpness, elegance against rebellion, intimacy against provocation. The product pages for the three fragrances do not name their perfumers, so formula authorship is not assigned to him.
Eucalyptus • Patchouli begins with cardamom, pink pepper, and distinct eucalyptus. Frankincense and olibanum occupy the heart, while patchouli, cedarwood, and moss form the base. The fresh camphoraceous line does not remain isolated: spices warm the opening before resins and an earthy woody base move it into a darker register.
Geranium • Balsamic Note grew from the creator's memories of his grandmothers. Juniper berry and bay leaf open the fragrance, cedarwood occupies the heart, and geranium, olibanum, and balsamic notes form the foundation. Placing geranium in the base emphasizes a rough green-resinous facet rather than airy floral character.
Sandalwood • Neroli connects bergamot and neroli in the opening with jasmine, sandalwood, and smoky notes in the heart. Synthetic musk, sandalwood, and cedarwood complete the composition. Here, too, the paired name does not exhaust the pyramid: a bright citrus-floral section meets smoke and dense woods.
The three fragrances show how to navigate Bohoboco. Each name fixes two reference points, while spices, resins, flowers, smoke, or moss emerge between them. Eucalyptus • Patchouli moves from cold freshness to earth; Geranium • Balsamic Note from aromatic greenery to resins; and Sandalwood • Neroli from bright neroli to smoky woods. They share a principle of contrast rather than one repeating pyramid. That principle remains consistent across all three examples.
