Guerlain is a French perfume and beauty house founded in Paris in 1828. Nearly two centuries of fragrance, cosmetics, and skincare have created a recognisable language in which heritage supports continuing creative development.
Brand story and character
Pierre-François-Pascal Guerlain founded the house in Paris in 1828, beginning a family tradition that shaped French perfumery across generations.
The Parisian identity rests on craft, formula, and presentation. Fragrance was never separate from a broader culture of beauty and personal ritual.
In 1853, Eau de Cologne Impériale for Empress Eugénie established an important connection with the imperial court and introduced the bee bottle as a lasting house symbol.
Successive Guerlain perfumers developed a catalogue in which materials, accords, and names formed a distinctive family language rather than a sequence of unrelated launches.
Shalimar, Habit Rouge, and the fragrances now gathered within Les Légendaires represent the classical side of the house, while Aqua Allegoria offers a lighter view of nature.
L'Art & La Matière gives individual materials and perfumery ideas a more focused contemporary setting, and Mon Guerlain provides another modern expression of the brand.
