Gucci
Gucci is the Italian house founded by Guccio Gucci in Florence in 1921. Beginning with luggage, it brought Tuscan craftsmanship together with an English aesthetic inspired by travel. Leather, movement, material, decorative signs, and cultural imagination continue into perfume.
Brand story and character
Guccio Gucci opened a luggage workshop and shop on Via della Vigna Nuova in Florence in 1921 after working at London's Savoy Hotel and observing international travellers and their belongings. He joined those impressions with Tuscan materials and craft, making movement between cities, cultures, and styles a founding idea. Luggage had to protect and accompany while expressing its owner's taste, a duality developed through leather, hardware, pattern, and form.
By the late 1930s, durable canvas and the diamond-shaped Diamante motif had begun turning technical necessity into graphic identity. Florentine craft, English elegance, urban modernity, and travel subsequently allowed the house to use heritage as material for change. Perfume creates its own worlds rather than literally reproducing leather or luggage. In The Alchemist's Garden, the fragrance 1921 marked the house's centenary and its birthplace through neroli flower and Florence's Limone Cedrato.
The alchemical metaphor reflects a broader Gucci method: an ordinary material is transformed into a symbol through note, colour, bottle, and name. Florentine origin, travel memory, attention to objects, and unexpected design give fragrance the same imaginative movement that began in the luggage workshop.
