Jimmy Choo
Jimmy Choo is a London house founded in 1996 from a handmade shoe atelier. Craft precision, modern glamour, and the ability to make an accessory part of a significant personal moment also shape its fragrances.
Brand story and character
Jimmy Choo grew from bespoke shoemaking in East London. Professor Jimmy Y.K. Choo and Tamara Yeardye, later Tamara Mellon, founded J. Choo Limited in 1996, while Sandra Choi became a foundational creative figure and continues to lead design. The house treats footwear as an object that changes movement, posture, and the feeling of an occasion, joining precision of last, line, and material with emotional design.
Its red-carpet reputation grew from a clear visual code in which glamour depends on proportion, confident form, and details that come alive in motion. International expansion began with New York and Los Angeles boutiques in 1998, while the creative centre remained in London and much production developed near Florence. Shoes now sit beside bags, accessories, jewellery, eyewear, and fragrance for women and men.
The house identifies Jimmy Choo Signature as its debut perfume. Fragrance acts as an invisible accessory: it can heighten glamour, contrast with concise clothing, or mark an important personal moment without literally imitating a shoe. Jimmy Choo therefore shows how a specialist atelier can become a global accessories house while retaining a relationship with material, craft, and presence.
