Ted Lapidus: a Parisian house of fashion and fragrance

Ted Lapidus is a French house shaped by Parisian fashion and an early, distinctive point of view. Its name is associated with unisex style, a freer interpretation of classic codes and a fragrance line that carried the brand’s fashion language into another medium.

Brand story and character

Ted Lapidus was founded in Paris in 1951 and developed from the outset as a house with a recognisable authorial tone. Its official history highlights fashion designed for urban life, where freedom of movement, clarity of form and the meeting of masculine and feminine codes matter alongside silhouette and finish. The result is a vision of French elegance without undue ceremony.

In 1963, Ted Lapidus joined the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture Parisienne. The house subsequently became associated with the generation that shaped French fashion in the second half of the 20th century, particularly through unisex design and the safari aesthetic. These enduring codes remain legible in both its clothing heritage and present-day identity.

Ted Lapidus entered perfumery in 1970 through a partnership with L'Oréal. Fragrance extended the logic of the fashion house and developed an identity of its own. Notable historical and contemporary names include Création, Lapidus pour Homme, Orissima, Orissima Divine, Rumba, Fantasme, TL pour lui, BlackSoul, Altamir, Poker Face, TL Intenso and Stories by Ted Lapidus.

The Ted Lapidus brand passed to Groupe Bogart in 1995. Its public image nevertheless remains closely tied to its founder and the style that made the name recognisable: Parisian character, freer lines, confident use of classic codes and an approachable idea of luxury. Today, Ted Lapidus is both part of French fashion history and an established perfume brand in its own right.
