Brand story and character

Lee Alexander McQueen founded his house in London in 1992. His training on Savile Row established a foundation in cut, proportion, and silhouette, yet he combined traditional tailoring with provocation and spectacle. McQueen's shows became known as theatrical, innovative productions in which clothing formed part of a complete narrative.

Alexander McQueen joined Kering in 2001. The house continued after its founder's death, while the scale of his cultural influence was demonstrated by the Savage Beauty retrospective: more than 650,000 people visited the exhibition at New York's Metropolitan Museum in 2011. Precise construction, a strong silhouette, nature, and British heritage remain important references for the house, although its artistic themes change from collection to collection.

Kingdom opened the first chapter in the brand's fragrance history. In 2003, British Vogue described it as Alexander McQueen's debut scent and cited the advertising phrase “the first parfum.” This securely connects the name with the beginning of the fragrance direction, but it does not replace separate documentation of the formula's composition and authorship.

The fragrance line gained a new point of departure in 2016. Kering's annual report identifies McQueen Parfum and McQueen Eau de Parfum as the house's first fragrances under its partnership with Coty. That wording refers to the revived project rather than erasing the earlier Kingdom: the two documented dates describe separate stages in the brand's history.

In October of the same year, Coty completed its merger with the P&G fragrance business and included Alexander McQueen in its fragrance portfolio. This relationship is documented for 2016, but its current status has not been established. A complete list of flankers and perfumers is also unavailable, so the names and dates of individual releases need to be checked fragrance by fragrance.
