Brand story and character

The Alfred Sung brand was founded in 1980 by designer Alfred Sung and Canada's Mimran family. It was conceived as a fashion house for the modern woman. This original focus matters to its history: fragrance did not emerge in isolation, but as one direction within an established brand.

Over time, Alfred Sung developed a broad range of product categories, including menswear and womenswear, accessories, watches, eyewear, children's products, and home goods. Expansion relied on licensing, product development, and marketing, making the designer's name an umbrella for different parts of the range.

The fragrance chapter began in 1986. Riviera Concepts licensed the Alfred Sung name for fragrance and cosmetics and launched Sung Alfred Sung. This release established the fashion house's connection with perfumery and became the first precisely dated point in the brand's fragrance history.

Forever Alfred Sung followed in 1995. Four years later, in 1999, Shi Alfred Sung appeared. Sung, Forever, and Shi therefore belong to different stages in the line's development: the 1986 debut was extended in the middle and at the end of the following decade. These dates present the fragrances as a chronology rather than a collection created all at once.

The history of Alfred Sung illustrates a model of expansion common to fashion brands. A house centred on clothing and the image of the modern woman came first; the name then moved into adjacent categories, including fragrance. The 1986 Riviera Concepts licence provided the mechanism for that transition in perfumery.

Sung, Forever, and Shi remain the principal historical reference points in Alfred Sung's fragrance profile. The first marks the beginning of the licensed line, the second dates to 1995, and the third to 1999. Together, they connect fragrance with a broader brand system that developed fashion, accessories, and home products through product categories and licensing.
