Atelier des Ors

Atelier des Ors was founded by Jean-Philippe Clermont in France in 2015. He based the house on an idea of “beautiful perfumery,” in which composition, materials, craft, and the designed object form a whole. Gold has a dual role within this system: it is both a physical material and a symbol of transformation, light, and artistic value.

Clermont has worked with dsm-firmenich perfumer Marie Salamagne since the beginning of the brand. Their long collaboration creates a continuous creative line: the founder sets cultural and visual reference points, while the perfumer translates them into materials and contrasts. Salamagne compares composition to painting, where shades emerge through juxtaposition.

Atelier des Ors is now based at Villa Primrose in Grasse. Its connection with French craft continues in the object itself: the bottle design looks to the traditions of 1920s and 1930s perfumery, the glass is made by a French specialist, and the finished fragrances are packaged in France. Embossed rays develop the theme of light, while flakes of 24-karat gold in the liquid make that symbolism visible.

The house extends its attention to the object over its useful life. Refills are available for Lune Féline, Rose Omeyyade, Nuda Veritas, Pink Me Up, and Noir By Night. This approach preserves the decorative bottle while separating it from the replacement volume of fragrance, without changing the object's artistic role.

Lune Féline reveals the darker, gourmand side of Atelier des Ors. The composition begins with warm spices, moves into rich woods, then brings Tahitian vanilla, balsamic nuances, and soft musky accords to the foreground. Marie Salamagne emphasises the floral, creamy character of white Tahitian vanilla, so the fragrance is built not only on sweetness but also on the contrast among spice, wood, and creaminess.

Riviera Drive takes another route. Lemon, marjoram, and rosemary form a fresh herbal opening; cedar leaf, absinthe, and patchouli make up the heart; Cashmeran, cedar, and musk shape the base. The composition belongs to the Riviera Collection and connects its aromatic profile with the French Riviera landscape, without repeating the dark vanilla density of Lune Féline.

Atelier des Ors brings together several consistent elements: its foundation in 2015, the creative dialogue between Clermont and Salamagne, its base in Grasse, French production of the object, and the literal presence of gold. Lune Féline and Riviera Drive demonstrate the breadth of this system, from spicy vanilla and woods to lemon, herbs, absinthe, and cedar. Unity comes not from one formula, but from a shared understanding of fragrance as both composition and artistic object.
