Byblos
Byblos is an Italian fashion brand founded in Milan in 1973 around a bold, expressive, and slightly provocative outlook. Freedom from convention, experimentation, and dialogue between fashion, technology, and nature inform its clothing, accessories, and fragrance.
Brand story and character
Byblos appeared in Milan in 1973 as a project for a new generation and a freer understanding of Italian ready-to-wear. Its own phrase, “well-dressed provocation,” captures a preference for visible character, movement, and visual expression.
An early creative turn involved Gianni Versace, while the Girombelli family and Genny SpA formed part of the wider company history. Colour, graphic energy, and an international approach became more important than a single designer's public persona.
Innovation, freedom from convention, and a disruptive attitude remain the three declared principles. The Milan address at Via della Spiga 33 connects current work with the archive while preserving a contemporary voice.
Fragrance and eyewear expanded the brand during the 1990s and 2000s. Mare appeared in 1997, Ghiaccio in 1998, and In Black in 2011, forming a natural extension of its light, contrasting, and visually confident fashion identity. Under Manuel Facchini since 2022, Byblos has continued to unite graphic design, technology, and a modern reading of its heritage.
