Carthusia
Carthusia is an Italian fragrance house whose identity is tied to Capri and the monastic tradition of the Certosa di Capri. The brand develops personal and home fragrances, body care, and accessories while retaining a local Mediterranean context. Caprissimo shows the floral woody side of the collection.
Brand story and character
Carthusia builds its identity around Capri. The brand's story draws on the monastic tradition of the Certosa di Capri and the revival of old fragrance formulas in the twentieth century. The modern house is developed by the Ruocco family, while the phrase I Profumi di Capri underlines the collection's connection to the island.
Carthusia extends beyond personal fragrance. Its range includes body care, home scents, accessories, and barber products. These categories share the same geography and craft-led identity, but the properties of individual compositions are defined by their own structures.
Caprissimo, released in 2009, shows the floral side of the collection. Lilac, gardenia, jasmine, lily of the valley, and Calabrian bergamot form the opening. Blue hyacinth, carnation, honeysuckle, and green leaves appear in the heart. White musk, amber, myrrh, Moroccan cedar, and sandalwood create a warm woody resinous base.
In Caprissimo, the island context does not replace the structure of the fragrance. The composition moves from white and lilac-toned flowers to a green spicy heart, then to musk, woods, and myrrh. This transition provides a specific example of Carthusia's fragrance language without relying on generic images of sea and sun. The change in texture—from transparent flowers and bergamot to greenery, woods, and resins—is central to the scent.
