Diana Vreeland Parfums
Diana Vreeland Parfums was created by Alexander Vreeland, grandson of the legendary fashion editor. The collection translates her love of expressive imagery into fragrance. One concrete landmark is the 2015 Smashingly Brilliant, with lemon, juniper, basil, and bergamot over a suede and woody foundation.
Brand story and character
The Diana Vreeland name predates the fragrance collection by decades. In 1936, Carmel Snow offered Diana Vreeland a role at Harper’s Bazaar; her Why Don’t You? column first appeared that same year. These events established her way of discussing style through bold ideas and unexpected combinations.
Vreeland later spent sixteen years as special consultant to the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Her work is associated with a new approach to fashion exhibitions, giving clothing a cultural and theatrical setting.
The Diana Vreeland fragrance collection was created by her grandson Alexander Vreeland. The house is therefore not a literal continuation of her editorial career, but an independent interpretation of family heritage through scent, naming, and colour.
Smashingly Brilliant was released in 2015. Its opening direction combines lemon, juniper berries, basil, and Calabrian bergamot; suede and woody notes appear in the base. This provides a concrete view of one fragrance without describing the whole collection.
The Diana Vreeland collection extends beyond Smashingly Brilliant. The citrus-woody structure of this release does not define the character of the other compositions.
