Goldfield & Banks
Dimitri Weber founded Goldfield & Banks in Australia in 2016 after seeing local plants as the basis of an independent fragrance language. The house joins Australian essences with French savoir-faire and builds gender-free compositions around specific landscapes. Blue Cypress demonstrates the method through blue cypress oil from Kakadu.
Brand story and character
The Goldfield & Banks story began with Dimitri Weber's journey to Australia. The French-Belgian fragrance specialist saw that local plants could become the basis of an entire perfume house rather than an exotic detail. Since 2016, the brand has developed relationships with Australian growers and distillers.
Its name brings together two lines of imagery: the natural wealth of the land and botanical history. The method centers on the specific provenance of raw materials. The house traces oils from cultivation and harvest through extraction and formula so the landscape does not remain abstract advertising scenery.
Australian materials meet French perfumery savoir-faire. Goldfield & Banks creates gender-free compositions chosen through place, mood, and plant rather than traditional masculine and feminine divisions. The Native Collection and Botanical Series develop the system with different emphasis on local essences. The first connects compositions with recognizable plants and regions of the continent; the second concentrates on rare botanical extracts. This division describes the editorial architecture of the catalogue, not a gender split in its audience.
The house names Australian sandalwood, Buddha Wood, brown boronia, blue cypress, and golden wattle among its key materials. They are joined by plants cultivated in the country, including lavender and agarwood. What matters is not a national label by itself but the interaction of climate, grower, and extraction method.
Blue Cypress was composed by François Merle-Baudoin under Dimitri Weber's creative direction. Its central blue cypress oil comes from Kakadu. The material provides a cool woody-aromatic profile, immediately shaded by the dry spicy warmth of clove.
Lavender and jasmine form the heart. Lavender continues the aromatic freshness of cypress, while jasmine adds softness and floral depth. The movement does not turn the composition into a bouquet: the woody material stays central and the flowers broaden its damp, misty side.
Vetiver and patchouli gather the foundation. Vetiver maintains a dry vertical line, and patchouli adds dark earthiness. Cool cypress and clove warmth retain their tension against this background, allowing the fragrance to feel clear, spicy, and calm at once.
Blue Cypress carries a stated concentration of 20% essences and botanicals. The current page gives no exact original launch date, so the local year 2016 is not repeated as verified product chronology. Authorship, raw material, notes, and concentration come from the house's page.
