Hanae Mori
Hanae Mori is the Japanese fashion house that grew from a Tokyo studio opened in 1951. Eastern fluidity, Western silhouettes, and composed elegance carried it internationally, while the butterfly became a recognisable emblem across fashion and fragrance.
Brand story and character
Hanae Mori began with its founder's Tokyo studio in 1951. The house reached New York in the 1960s, held its first international show there in 1965, and opened a maison on Avenue Montaigne in Paris in 1977, establishing a Japanese interpretation of couture.
Calm femininity, exact lines, fine materials, elegance, and comfort form the visual language. The butterfly appears across clothing, accessories, and perfume bottles as the enduring symbol.
Costume, stage work, official ceremonies, and cultural projects broadened the legacy. The wedding dress created for Empress Masako in 1993 remains among its best-known commissions.
Fragrance began in 1995 and continued the same imagery. HM, Butterfly, and HIM link personal scent with the identity of the founding fashion house.
Japanese foundations, Parisian couture, and contemporary perfume coexist without heaviness. Hanae Mori retains a quiet but expressive profile for those who value history and precise form.
