Maison Crivelli

Thibaud Crivelli was born in Paris and grew up between central France and Provence. In 2006, he moved to China and subsequently spent more than ten years in different Asian countries. Travel introduced him not only to new cultures but also to plantations of fragrance raw materials. Colour, sound, taste, temperature, and the surface of a material became equal parts of an impression and the basis of his future creative method.

Before starting his own project, Crivelli worked within the industry. In his interview with the Fragrance Foundation France, he names LVMH, Givenchy in Singapore, then Dior and Guerlain in Hong Kong. This experience provided a practical understanding of the market and the workings of major houses. Maison Crivelli appeared in 2018 as an independent brand in which the founder's personal memory begins a composition, while a guest perfumer gives it professional form.

The work starts with an unexpected encounter with a raw material: a saffron field in fog, hibiscus tea among gemstones, or passion fruit in an oud forest. For each project, the team assembles a multisensory mood board with images, words, and sounds. The perfumer proposes versions that are evaluated and revised without a rigid calendar. According to the house, the route to a final formula can take from several months to two years.

This process does not bind Maison Crivelli to one olfactory genre. The shared principle is contrast: a familiar material is placed in an unfamiliar setting and revealed through several senses. The current catalogue includes eaux de parfum, extraits, and discovery sets. Collection names help navigate the range, but the story of each fragrance retains its own scene, composition, and authorship.

Hibiscus Mahajád became an important milestone: the founder calls its September 2021 release a second birth for the house. Created with Quentin Bisch, the extrait is built around an image of hibiscus tea in a gemstone market. Rose and blackcurrant support its fruity-floral core, mint and cinnamon add cool and spicy contrast, and vanilla, leather, musks, and ambrette form a warm foundation. The stated concentration is 32 percent.

Oud Maracujá, created with Jordi Fernandez, uses a different contrast. Juicy passion fruit is set against a warm oud accord, joined by saffron, Turkish rose, leather, patchouli, benzoin, cistus, vanilla, and akigalawood. It is also a 32-percent extrait. The bright fruit does not soften the woody theme; instead, it makes the movement between freshness, leather, and ambery depth particularly clear.

Hibiscus Mahajád and Oud Maracujá show how the brand's language works: a lived scene becomes a precise brief and then a composition with a named perfumer. Crivelli's biography explains his interest in raw materials and many cultures but does not replace the work of the formula's authors. The catalogue is therefore best read on three levels: the initial impression, the contrast of materials, and each fragrance's individual development on skin.
