Marc-Antoine Barrois

Marc-Antoine Barrois is the Paris house founded by designer Marc-Antoine Barrois in 2009. Its fragrance chapter began after he met Quentin Bisch in 2015: the designer brings emotions and images, and the perfumer translates them into compositions. The first B683, its distinct Extrait, and floral Aldebaran show how this dialogue has evolved over time.

Brand story and character

Marc-Antoine Barrois founded his own fashion house in Paris in 2009. Before that, couturier Dominique Sirop had noticed him, and the young designer later collaborated with Jean-Paul Gaultier at Hermès. These experiences shaped an attention to material, durability, and precise silhouette—qualities that would later continue in the house's fragrance objects.

The decisive meeting for the fragrance collection took place in 2015. Marc-Antoine Barrois and Quentin Bisch discovered a shared interest in leather, natural forest scents, fresh flowers, and discreet luxury. The house describes their method as an exchange of roles: the designer conveys an emotion and imagined scene, while the perfumer turns them into scent. Formula authorship therefore belongs to Bisch, while the direction emerges from an ongoing dialogue between the two creators.

B683 appeared in 2016 and became the house's first fragrance. Its name combines a reference to the planet in The Little Prince with the designer's birth date. Quentin Bisch's composition revolves around black pepper, chili, and saffron, the coolness of violet leaf, and a leather accord; sandalwood, patchouli, and oakmoss are listed in the woody section. The couture theme of leather thus takes on a spicy, mobile form rather than literal heaviness.

B683 Extrait, released on October 1, 2020, does more than raise the concentration of the original eau de parfum. The house presents the 40-percent extrait as an independent reinterpretation of B683. Green apple and natural oud from Laos change the proportions of the familiar leather, while saffron, patchouli, and vanilla strengthen its dark, dense, and carnal side. Quentin Bisch is also credited with this new version.

The difference between B683 and B683 Extrait is important when reading the collection. In the first, pepper, violet leaf, sandalwood, and moss outline a dry modern leather. In the Extrait, tart apple creates a sharp, bright contrast, while oud and patchouli deepen the leather accord. These are two related compositions with their own formulas and characters, not one fragrance in two interchangeable strengths.

Aldebaran was released on April 6, 2025, and moves the shared language into floral territory. Quentin Bisch builds it around tuberose absolute with milky and fresh-petal facets. A paprika accord contributes a spicy flash of color, mate adds dry greenery, and tonka bean rounds the base. The house connects the image of a white flower in darkness with starlight and the idea of moving from shadow toward optimism.

The three releases demonstrate not one house note but a consistent way of working with contrast. B683 sets spice and coolness against supple leather; B683 Extrait opposes tart greenery to the depth of oud and patchouli; Aldebaran places luminous tuberose beside paprika, mate, and tonka. In each case, the image remains clear because a limited set of expressive materials supports it.

The history of the house should not be confused with the history of its fragrances. The Maison de Couture was founded in 2009, the creative partnership with Quentin Bisch began in 2015, and the first perfume appeared in 2016. Available materials do not name an outside license holder, so none is attributed here. Dates and authorship for B683, B683 Extrait, and Aldebaran come from their separate pages without transferring details from one release to another.
