Mauboussin

In 1827, Monsieur Rocher opened a jewellery workshop on Rue Greneta in Paris. Jean-Baptiste Noury succeeded him. Georges Mauboussin joined his uncle's company as an apprentice and gained full control in 1898. The family name by which the house is known today therefore entered its history seven decades after its foundation.

In the 1920s, Mauboussin stood at the centre of its era's decorative arts. The house won the grand prize at the French exhibition in New York in 1924 and a gold medal at the Paris decorative arts exhibition a year later. Its own chronology links this period with the rise of Art Deco, coloured stones, and unusual materials. Its recognisable language emerged from this context: strict geometry beside rich colour and the brilliance of jewels.

Fragrance develops this aesthetic, but the image of a jewellery house should not be treated as a description of every formula. The contemporary catalogue is divided into women's and men's directions and separately identifies the private Je Le Veux collection. This structure shows that fragrance is a complete Mauboussin category rather than a single addition to jewellery.

Individual releases are best understood through their own descriptions. Une Histoire de Femme Sensuelle, for example, is built around praline, rose, white freesia, and white musks. This gourmand floral combination reveals only one facet of the collection and does not establish a template for every composition.

A specialist fragrance database identifies the women's Mauboussin, released in 2000, as the house's first scent. The brand's historical material does not confirm this date, so it should be treated as a reference rather than an undisputed starting point. Public pages also provide no complete list of earlier launches, perfumers, or licensing partners. Mauboussin's fragrance history therefore rests primarily on the current catalogue and dates that can be verified separately.
