Olfactive Studio
Céline Verleure launched Olfactive Studio in Paris in September 2011. Photography, rather than a note pyramid, provides the starting point: a perfumer translates the image's emotion into composition, making each scent an invisible frame.
Brand story and character
Olfactive Studio began in Paris in September 2011 as Céline Verleure's attempt to reverse the usual creative order. Instead of photographing a finished perfume, the house begins with contemporary artistic photography and seeks its olfactory language. Verleure brought experience from Kenzo, where Pierre Broc mentored her and where she worked on Kenzo Jungle with Dominique Ropion and Jean-Louis Sieuzac and on l’Eau par Kenzo with Olivier Cresp.
The word Studio describes both a photographic space and a place of perfume creation, where light, angle, material, conversation, and experiment remain open. Autoportrait, Chambre Noire, and Still Life appeared in 2011, followed by Lumière Blanche, Flash Back, Ombre Indigo, Panorama, Selfie, Still Life in Rio, Close Up, and Woody Mood. Their names establish visual perspectives rather than prescribe identical notes.
Photographer and perfumer work as co-authors, while Verleure curates the dialogue. The house's phrase that perfumes have no gender but do have a soul follows naturally from this method: an image and its emotion remain open to personal interpretation.
