Rabanne (Paco Rabanne)
Rabanne is the current name of the French house Paco Rabanne, whose first Paris collection appeared in 1966. Metal, assembled elements, reflected light, and bodily movement define its style. Calandre began the perfume story in the late 1960s with its 1969 launch.
Brand story and character
Rabanne began with Paco Rabanne's first collection at Paris's Hotel George V on 1 February 1966. Rhodoid slats and discs joined by metal rings established assemblage as an alternative to conventional cutting, allowing material, light, and movement to become visible parts of construction. Metal, plastic, fastenings, and reflective surfaces were celebrated rather than concealed, while black models and music by Pierre Boulez placed the show within a wider cultural gesture. Puig created the Paco Rabanne perfume division in France in 1968, followed by Calandre in 1969, soon after the “12 unwearable dresses in contemporary materials.” Paco Rabanne Pour Homme followed in 1973. Puig acquired the entire business, including fashion and accessories, in 1987, keeping both disciplines within one house. The shortened name Rabanne now unites fashion and beauty under a single lifestyle signature while Paco Rabanne remains the essential historical alias. In fragrance, the legacy appears through contrast, energy, clean bottle form, and expressive composition rather than a literal metallic note. From Calandre onward, Rabanne has translated experimental construction and technological imagination into scent.
