Brand story and character

The story began in 1976, when twin sisters Jean and Jane Ford opened a small San Francisco beauty shop called The Face Place. Their direct, lively, and slightly irreverent view of beauty became the foundation of Benefit Cosmetics, the name adopted in 1990.

After early growth in the United States, Benefit expanded internationally and joined LVMH in 1999. Bathina, its first bath and boudoir line, arrived in 2001, while the first Brow Bar opened at Macy's Union Square in San Francisco in 2003. This service-led focus on eyebrows became one of the company's defining strengths.

Benefit describes its outlook as fun and feel-good, and that spirit is visible in bright packaging, playful names, and recognisable lines such as Benetint, The POREfessional, and BADgal BANG!. The result is both a commercially established cosmetics label and a beauty brand with a clear, consistent voice.
