Gai Mattiolo
Gai Mattiolo is the Italian fashion brand associated with Rome and designer Gaetano Mattiolo, who opened his house in 1987. Vivid colour, elaborate finishing, and distinctive buttons became recognisable elements.
Brand story and character
Gai Mattiolo established his Rome fashion house in 1987 and quickly developed a runway identity based on saturated colour, dramatic presentation, and close attention to details such as signature buttons.
Gai Mattiolo Maglia, Schoking Gai, Tessuti Couture, and Royale broadened the name during the late 1990s and early 2000s. The description “Nuovo Versace” captured the theatrical visibility of the style rather than a literal equivalence. A later legal case involving the designer concluded with an acquittal in 2015.
