Byredo
Byredo is a Swedish brand founded by Ben Gorham in Stockholm in 2006. Memory, emotion, and object design connect perfume with makeup, home fragrance, and accessories, bringing Scandinavian restraint together with freer artistic expression.
Brand story and character
Ben Gorham established Byredo as a perfume project grounded in personal association, atmosphere, and imagery rather than conventional decorative luxury. Memories and emotions become objects and experiences, giving fragrance, visual design, and the wider range one sensory language.
Founded in Stockholm in 2006, the brand combines minimalist form and visual discipline with a bolder creative instinct. It now presents itself across perfume, makeup, home products, and crafted accessories.
Gypsy Water, Bal d'Afrique, Mojave Ghost, Blanche, and Rose of No Man's Land illustrate the importance of evocative naming and personal memory. Perfume nevertheless remains the core that sets the tone for every other category.
Puig acquired a majority stake in 2022 while Ben Gorham retained a visible creative role. The move placed Byredo within a larger luxury group without erasing its established identity.
Today the house is recognised for consistency rather than loud declaration: personal narrative, strict form, emotional memory, and careful growth beyond perfume. It demonstrates how an independent fragrance idea can become a multidisciplinary brand while preserving its original character.
