Lalique
Lalique is the French house of René Lalique, whose story began in 1888. Art Nouveau jewellery led to glass, crystal, and a radical new understanding of the perfume bottle, making composition, light, relief, and vessel one artistic language.
Brand story and character
René Lalique registered the RL mark in 1888 and used gold and gemstones alongside enamel, horn, mother-of-pearl, and glass, judging materials by light, colour, texture, and their relationship with design. A Place Vendôme boutique followed in 1905, where glass gradually became an independent practice shaped through transparency, matt surfaces, relief, and shadow. François Coty invited Lalique to bring this art into perfumery, and their collaboration transformed the bottle from incidental packaging into a memorable part of scent available beyond a tiny circle of collectors. Nature, the female figure, animals, Art Déco geometry, and the handling of light formed a visual legacy continued after René Lalique's death. The house launched its own Lalique de Lalique fragrance in 1992, distinguishing a modern perfume line from the earlier history of making bottles for others. Contemporary designs interpret the archive through crystal, weight, surface, and reflection rather than merely copying ornament. Lalique perfume is therefore object-led: formula, name, glass, and light create one impression across accessible releases and limited crystal editions. From jewellery in 1888 through Coty bottles to the house fragrance of 1992, Lalique demonstrates that perfume exists not only invisibly but also in the hand, in light, and in material.
