Chopard
Chopard is a Swiss house whose history began in 1860, when Louis-Ulysse Chopard established a watchmaking workshop in Sonvilier. It later became a family maison under the Scheufeles, combining precise mechanics, jewellery design, and a recognisable style.
Brand story and character
Chopard began with watchmaking in Sonvilier in 1860, building its reputation on precision, fine execution, and watches made for reliable daily use. The Scheufele family acquired the company in 1963 and shaped its modern identity as a family-owned house with a strong sense of continuity.
During the second half of the twentieth century, watches and jewellery acquired a distinctive shared language. Happy Diamonds appeared in 1976, followed by Chopard Manufacture in Fleurier in 1996. Moving diamonds, sporting elegance, clean jewellery lines, and careful finishing joined engineering with luxury.
Chopard has partnered with the Cannes Film Festival since 1998 and launched its Journey to Sustainable Luxury in 2013. A subsequent commitment to 100% ethical gold for watches and jewellery connected decorative expression with material responsibility.
Haute Parfumerie extends the same world through fragrance for women and men. Casmir, launched in 1992, was followed by Wish, Happy Spirit, 1000 Miglia, Malaki, and other families. Composition, character, and a sense of completion translate the house's approach from objects into scent.
Today Chopard remains a broad but coherent Swiss maison. Family history, precise form, enduring collections, watches, jewellery, and fragrance all contribute to one consistent system of taste.
