Escada
Escada is a German fashion house founded by Margaretha and Wolfgang Ley in 1978. Its language combines confident femininity with precise colour, prints, and detail. Fragrance translates these codes into mood and becomes an invisible emotional extension of fashion.
Brand story and character
Margaretha and Wolfgang Ley founded Escada in 1978 as women's fashion sought a new balance between professional life, evening dress, and personal freedom. Margaretha's training with the court tailor Leja in Stockholm, her design work at Mondi, and her experience with the SRB knitwear factory in Munich brought tailoring discipline together with colour and print. Wolfgang provided the entrepreneurial foundation while Margaretha led the creative direction. The house built complete wardrobes in which vivid shades and graphic detail rested on precise cuts and practical understanding. Four annual collections—Pre-Spring, Spring/Summer, Pre-Fall, and Fall/Winter—allow colour, fabric, and silhouette to change with season and setting, while ESCADA SPORT adds a more relaxed urban direction. Fragrance follows this fashion language through emotion rather than literal imitation: freshness, warmth, contrast, softness, and energy can create the olfactory equivalent of colour. Since 1978, Escada has treated femininity as active and assured, with craft precision supporting expressive style.
